Studying Angels in the Garden

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

Don't laugh, this isn't a fairly story—last night 16 members of the Barnabas discipleship group were doing the third in the series of Bible studies about Angels. We sat around the fish pond in the cool of the evening and it was a lovely end to probably the hottest day this year (so far).

However, we started the evening with two additional singers to practise a beautiful gospel song called So You Would Know. We are practising this to sing to the church in a few weeks time. I must say - with so many beautiful voices singing about our lovely God in the small confines of our living room - I tried in vain to hold back tears of joy.

If you aren't in a home based mid-week discipleship group yet why not speak to Andy or Lynda Wilson. You will be made to feel most welcome.

Wilson drives chariots of fire

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

Ok, I'm not Jeremy Clarkson, these weren't chariots of fire and this is not a professional car review. But I was driving some very hi-tech 4x4 vehicles over some laughably dangerous off-road terrain in a farmer's field, along disused railway paths and through some dark and dingy woods. It was all part of the Mitsubishi Motors 4x4 Day in Marlborough.

Tell A Friend - Button it!

Posted by: Tony Hudson in Untagged  on

If you are anything like me — computers are relatively unfamiliar. Perhaps you have some years of computer experience? Either way, leaving positive comments on the Church website is not only easy and fun but also helpful to old and new visitors alike.

Why helpful, I hear hear you cry!!

Well just think — we Christians want to spread the word of Christ and want all who visit our Church website see how our world has changed with Christ in it. So, let your fingers do the walking on the keyboard and tell everyone what you think of the articles and videos you are reading and viewing.

Barnabas Discipleship Group Update

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

Barnabas (we never close – except for Bank Holidays) is held weekly at Andy and Lynda Wilson's home.

We are doing Barnabas in a user-friendly way these days – we are sharing the week’s news etc and having a “connection” time from 7.45pm to 8.15pm each Monday. People can collect their tea/coffee/water from the kitchen during this time.

Baby Sarah-Rose Hudson - update with photos

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

The Hudson family only returned from the hospital on Wed 5 March - a couple of days late due to our baby Sarah-Rose's jaundice. This has almost disappeared now.

The community midwives' visits have been really helpful, especially as this is a new experience for us. It is taking a little time to adjust to the Sarah-Rose's feeds and the rests Noemi needs to get in-between - and the new activities that we are being confronted with. I am now at home for a while so that I can support Noemi in full "Dad" capacity.

Sarah Rose is turning our lives up-side down but we wouldn't have it any other way.....even with the sleepless nights and crying - it's all worth it!

Sarah Rose was born on a very special day - 29th February, so she will only have a birthday every four years.

We want to say thanks for all the cards, gifts and prayers from those at our house group Barnabas and from other church members at Greenford Baptist and CCL (Noemi's Brazilian Church).

If anyone out there feels that perhaps God is not hearing or listening to your cries or prayers just take a moment to see what he has done for us in producing such a special child after all this time (eight years).

God is Good all the time!

A New Barnabas Baby

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

Tony Hudson has sent a text to let us know that their long awaited and much prayed for daughter Sarah Rose was born at 2.53 am on Friday 29 February, weighing 3 kg (approx 6lbs 9 oz). Noemi had a long labour, but apparently all is well. What a relief - Praise God!

Sarah Rose will have one birthday every four years !! so she is a very special little girl.

We all thank God for this miracle baby.

A timely truth

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

OK, so the following quote is not original but applied to our website and to some of the great technology around the Church, it is very true:

At Greenford Baptist Church we believe in using timely technology to teach the timeless truth.

My thanks to Mister Robertson for the quote.

Finding Oasis

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

It was always my ambition to be a writer. It outlasted my other ambitions (ballerina, dairy farmer) and other careers - carer for young disabled, social worker, optician's assistant, secretary, and PR executive.

I've written stories ever since I could write. My first novel was 100 pages long, written in biro in a couple of exercise books, at the age of 13, and only my sister was allowed to read it.

By my twenties, I was seriously writing a book. I'd heard how difficult it was to get published, and how you should never send the whole manuscript, only a couple of chapters as a taster. So I was caught out when, having sent three chapters of my first adult novel to Penguin books, an editor wrote back and asked to see the rest of it. I had to ask her to wait six months because I hadn't written it yet!

Spell Checker for Windows Internet Explorer

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

I have just come across an excellent (and totally free) spelling checker that adds on to Windows Internet Explorer.

This is ideal for writing in the blog section of our website—or any other section for that matter.

This add-on is good for entering text in all on-line forms, including job application forms.

How to write Comments about our articles

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

Recently added to the GBC website is a fantastic interactive feature with the following points:

  1. you can make comments about individual articles and videos
  2. and Reply to other people's comments
  3. on most pages in the website
  4. and also make general comments about the website in the Guest Book for Visitors Comments (which is under the Home menu)

You could write a practise comment below, however practise comments are only temporary and will be deleted. It would be much nicer if you left some real comments elsewhere on the website.

If you are a Community Member please log in before writing comments.

Hi, WebAuthor here. It was a dream of mine for a quite a while but now I have created this new and exciting feature on our website. It’s a TV station called GBC WEB TV and it’s only available on our website.

Friday 23rd March 2007
I didn't go running today. I returned home at nearly 10:30 pm from a meeting which started at 08:00 pm and had already made my mind up that I was not going to go running, only to receive a message from Steve that he was not running that night either.

I Can Only Imagine

This inspirational video is guaranteed to inspire you, whether you are a marathon runner, like our friend Adam Thomas, or you are a more sedate person. You will probably need a tissue, by the way.

If I Were the Devil

Posted by: WebAuthor in Untagged  on

I was recently sent this PowerPoint presentation by an American friend and although it is quite negative it is also very thought provoking. Hopefully it will help you to think about the problems (some of which happen in the UK) and pray with enthusiasm for God to overturn them.  Here is the presentation.

Pastor David Wise says about this, "Overall it does feel like a very negative perspective perhaps coming out of the premillenial dispensational theology that is common in the USA."

So there you have it - a thumbs down from our Pastor.
