Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT
  • Some parts of the story are well known  but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Fruitful (v 1—7)

  • It important to understand that this is not where the story starts
  • Joseph’s descendents were in Egypt at God’s doing, it was His plan  and there they were being blessed by God

Oppressed (v 8—14)

  • The new king saw the growth of God’s people as a threat to national security
  • This hard season was a part of God’s provision for His people
  • God’s hand could still be seen, He was working out His plans in His time

Genocide (v 15—22)

  • The midwives feared God more that Pharaoh
  • God was still in control despite appearances

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?
  • Being in God’s will does not mean life will be trouble free
  • We can choose to trust that God is in control
