Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT
  • Some parts of the story are well known  but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

The First Confrontation (v 1-5)

  • Moses did not follow God’s instructions

Failure (v 6-21)

  • A powerful picture of the desperate situation that the Israelites were in
  • Overturning this oppression was never going to be easy, but walking in faith never is

Recommisioned (5 v 22 to 6 v 12)

  • Moses turned straight back to God
  • Even though Moses messed up God was still in control

Ordinary People (v 13—27)

  • Motyer, “in one corner ordinary human clay; in the other, superpower royalty. But this “mere” humanity had been commissioned by the Lord”

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?
  • Listen carefully to God
  • Walking in faith is never easy
  • God is in control even when we mess up
  • We need to live with questions
