Double-glazed suburbia - set against the dawn;
Darkness giving way to light, as birdsong greets the morn:
Stillness smothers movement, a temporary treat,
As 'quiet' tries to penetrate the world's incessant beat.

Engines turning over - damp has slowed their start;
Traffic hum is building up, as silence falls apart.
Busyness beginning, battling the day,
Time to swallow breakfast and maybe time to pray.

Pause to ask the Saviour - for His gift of grace,
Be prepared for pressure in the never-ending race.
Let Him be the Master - stretching out your time
To include the actions that He has in mind.

Let Him choose the people, he will bring your way
And if you start to falter, begin again to pray.
The day ordained before you was given for your joy -
May Peace be your companion - whatever your employ.
