Introduction
  • These events took place around  1000 BC, Saul was Israel’s first king, however he had “rejected the word of the Lord” and was rejected by God as king, although he continued in office
  • We have seen David leave Israel for Philistia as a fugitive in fear of his life from Saul
David Rejected (v 1—11)
  • David had been living a deceitful life in Philistia
    He consequently found himself going to battle against his own people
Ziklag Destroyed (30 v 1—8)
  • This was the result of David’s own actions and choices
  • David did not blame God instead he drew deeply on Him and actively sought His will
  • This was a key moment in David’s life
Rescue ( v 9—20)
  • This was a stunning victory of David’s disciplined men over  drunken revelers
Generosity ( v 21—31)
  • It was God’s victory and the proceeds belonged to the whole community
Application
  • What have we learnt this morning?
  • God remains faithful to us
  • It is how we respond to circumstances that matters
  • The victory is the Lord’s
